Recorded herein are 8 short videos about water.
Why report on this dull subject?
Houston, Texas, a southern coastal city, in 2021 experienced an unusual freeze in its weather. While Texan’s brag about their State being big, I suspect most will want to forget about the BIG FREEZE. It was so bad…it was reported homeowners were burning their children’s toy wooden blocks for heat.
Many folks had frozen pipes, water damage, loss of electricity and water and other frustrations.
Many residence thought their heat comfort was safe since most have natural gas heating. That is true until the homeowner realizes that furnace does not work without electricity to operate the fans and blowers in their central heating or heat pump systems. So if one didn’t have a wood fired fireplace or natural gas fired fireplace not needing a blower…central heat was non-existent.
Also with water mains frozen (since Houston freeze protection design was not designed for the unusual freeze event) meant not only did folks not have water for toilets and bathing…they also did not have water supply to local fire hydrants! And fire trucks carry a very short supply of water for a fire measured in minutes and not hours. Since Houston has many swimming pools and bayous, maybe the fire folk should have in their inventory submersible pumps to use those water supply sources if fire hydrants are frozen or not working. And since many folk were burning candles, and kids toys and what ever they could find to release heat, it is a wonder there were not more fire incidences.
Plumbing supplies and access to plumbers quickly became in short supply…and in some cases, some price gouging going on. Emergencies often seem to bring both the good and bad in folks.
As a consequence of the BIG FREEZE calamity, these series of videos were prepared about water to use as a reference by folks desiring some uncommon information about water, and what to do in various emergency situations.
