CAR FRONT END BUG COVERS…WHY I STOPPED USING THEM..

Vinyl covers that fit over the front of one’s car are supposed to protect against paint damage from flying debri, bug impact and tar as you travel down the highway especially at highway speeds.  For my 2018 Jeep wrangler I noticed after a year of use that the cover apparently did not fit snuggly enough (I didn’t notice that until after damage) and instead of preventing paint chip damage it caused paint chip damage apparently due to the cover ‘fluttering’ against the body sort of like a vibrating wood sander.  I have removed the cover and will not replace.

Pictures of before and after use of covers attached along with illustrated paint chip damage.

Read the fine print of purchased covers…there usually are warnings somewhere that if a loose fit, don’t use them.  Not sure how you learn about such, since loose fit damage most likely won’t appear until after a year of use…and that’s after most 1 year warranty coverage expires.  I asked one manufacturer if they would at least assist with helping me pay for the cost of a paint pen to cover up the damage…but was declined…citing the 1 year warranty expiration.  I figure sometimes customer relations is more important than the hard cold facts of an agreement.  For me…I won’t be purchasing covers in the future.
